Cdr. Velorna Tal

"Goddammit!" She swore quietly but forcefully under her breath, hoping that no one would hear.

"What was that, Commander?" It appeared that she was closer to the Admiral was closer than she realized. His bemused tone and sly smile simply served to drive home just how betrayed she was feeling.

"Nothing, sir. Just trying to understand what we've just seen."

Lora Kor seemed to accept her explanation for the moment before turning back to his own console to concentrate on piloting Kelaka and her string of escape pod pickups back into Xanadu in the three minutes, fifteen seconds they had left until the translation event occurred.

How could her father have done this to her? He had not only failed to inform her of his plan to sacrifice Panache but had obviously sent her on her "evaluation mission" to keep her out of the loop. Why Admiral Wallace felt the need to keep secrets from his Fleet Intelligence Officer was almost as incomprehensible as why he would keep secrets from his own child, adopted or otherwise.

It had to be the Fourth Chamber. He had learned the truth of what was in there and what it was capable of, and he wanted to minimize the number of people who could access that information. Since she had to be out and about within the Fleet for various reasons, it was only reasonable to assume that he had not told her so that she could maintain her other duties. She could not tell anyone that which she did not know.

Despite the cold reason of logic that she had learned so long ago from her many-times distant cousins on Vulcan, Commander Velorna Tal still could not get rid of the cold pit of betrayal that lay in her stomach.

And twenty-five years of paternal loyalty had to reassert itself. A glance at Lora Kor was all it really took for her to make her decision, though there was no real logic behind it. The simple fact of the matter was that the Trill had yet to betray her trust.
