=.\= Meanwhile, aboard U.S.S. Coronado =.\=

Watching the newly-resurrected Captain Jarod Bentall closely from the back of the Bridge, Dr. Jason Thompson was having a whispered conversation with Savant and Caring-Thoughts about the implications of the former XO's resurrection. It later occurred to Thompson that he probably chose the two worst possible members of Coro's complement to discuss the matter with. Savant, of course, was immortal. Caring-Thoughts was a braid, which meant much the same thing. All braids found the concept of "death" quite alien. After all, as long as a single cord remained from a destroyed braid, none of the knowledge of that braid was lost. As such, braids didn't consider the individual important at all.

When the Captain stood up, handing the bridge to Commander Daren, and headed for his Ready Room, Bentall made his move. Thompson, dragging Savant and Caring-Thoughts along, followed. The conversation they were having was actually the first thing the Captain heard as he entered the Ready Room.

"...but you're sure of that?" Thompson was asking in an intense whisper.

Savant's voice had the ethereal quality she was known for as she replied. "Yes, Doctor. I'm afraid the device burned out several of its components not long after completing its cycle. It will not operate again without significant repairs," she said. The Captain, overhearing, smiled to himself and prepared for visitors.

Bentall, somewhat single-minded and focused on the Captain, reached the Ready Room just behind Lora Kor. He didn't hear the conversation behind him. Entering the Ready Room before the doors could close behind Lora Kor, Bentall suddenly hesitated and when he spoke, his voice was a bit more tentative than he'd planned.

"Hello, Captain," Jarod Bentall said.

In the Captain's defense, what happened next was probably understandable. After all, Tebrun Lora Kor was a Trill, and deep down in his subconscious, the idea of being resurrected was probably not all that remarkable to him.

The Captain looked up from where he had sat down at his desk and smiled. "Good morning, Jarod," he said, almost as if he'd expected Bentall to appear. "Can I get you anyt--" Suddenly, the Trill stopped and really looked at his visitor, coming half out of his chair as he did. When he spoke again, the Captain's voice was a strangled whisper. "Jarod?" he asked, voice hoarse... and then he fainted, falling behind the desk.

Savant, Thompson, and Caring-Thoughts entered the Ready Room at that moment. Thompson took in the situation at a glance and rushed toward the Captain. For Caring-Thoughts, Lora Kor's reaction was of course perfectly understandable. When faced with something that shocking, a braid's reaction would have been similar, after all. If a braid could have nodded, Caring-Thoughts would have. Instead, the braid turned to Savant.

"They-they took that well," Caring-Thoughts said.
