Dear Mom and Dad, Surprise! I hope this letter finds you both well. We've finally figured out how to send messages back to the Milky Way, and while I can't go into any details as to how we do so, let's just say that someone is watching over us and giving us some help. While i know how hard it must be to not be curious, mother, i'll do my best to send what I can when I can. Things have been, in a word, dramatic. Again, military censors be damned, I can't tell you too much of the details, but things have been very interesting. We have been conducting a defensive war for some time now against a rather hostile group of people named the Pfhor, but that's recently resolved. I'm looking forward to helping build a strong and prosperous nation here, something that will make you proud of me. I was promoted just recently as well, I'm now serving as the Flag Logistics officer for Task Group 85.3, under Tebrun, who is now a Rear Admiral. It's good work, rather different form what i'm used to, but it's a very pleasant change. I wish i could say that all is well, but that just isn't the case. It turns out that it may have been a mistake to write my superficial modification layers with active DPXCI protocol, Mom, as it's caused a lot of troubles - they were compromised a good while back, and the whole thing has crashed. I haven't been able to get it back up again. Now, don't worry too much, I'm a lot more in control of myself since ten years back, so there shouldn't be a problem. I'm writing you this without using it, after all! And Dad, I hope you're happy to hear that I've gone through Basic Marine training, with sterling results. I actually found it very relaxing. If I manage to get back to the Federation some time soon, I'm thinking of transferring in for a tour or two. It woudl make a nice change of pace.
