Doctor Alec Reed, Chief Medical Officer
Posted on Saturday, January 25, 2003 - 07:42 pm:

Nothing had changed. Of course, he hadn't expected anything to change in a mere few days. Much as he led his staff to believe the contrary, he had no doubt that they could carry on without him for short periods of time. He couldn't totally take credit for that, but fear of his verbal retribution if they screwed up seemed to be more than enough motivation to keep most of them in-line.

He smirked to himself as he recalled the barely-concealed amazement on Dyson's face as he walked her back to her quarters. Little did she -- or anyone else, really -- realize that he did indeed have a soft side. It was simply reserved for his patients. When Dyson became his patient, she had access to it. Of course, he could only imagine how disappointed she would be when she returned to work only to find that he was the same old Doctor Reed again.

She'd live, he decided. The doors to sickbay slid apart and he strode in, medical coat billowing behind him. The various medical personnel on duty clearly grimaced or flinched as he came in, expecting the worst, hoping to simply be left alone. He'd grant them their wish this time. Ensuring that nothing required his immediate attention -- in fact, it was rather quiet – he continued past them and into his office.

The Captain was probably expecting some kind of written report on the Paqui situation, Reed decided. Apparently, the general consensus was that no one had the heart to get Paqui away from situations wherein he could become dangerous. Perhaps a medical recommendation would help tip the scales...
