The stroll from 7th Heaven back to his quarters wasn't a long one -- just to the nearest turbolift, up a deck, and down a corridor. Unlike Swiftsure, Reed's quarters were actually located a short jog away from sickbay. Previously, he would have had to take a turbolift up three decks and run a good length of corridor to tend to emergencies that the other resident physicians couldn't handle, or didn't have the authority to handle. 'Ah, deck six,' Reed thought, stepping out of the turbolift. He looked at it for a moment. It was deserted at this time of night, despite the fact that tension was rather high. Apparently, they were going to try to liberate Reor'sa. 'They,' he noted. 'Not me. I just clean up the mess.' As he began to walk towards his quarters, he decided that cleaning up the mess was probably better than becoming the mess -- better by a long shot. Arriving at his door, he keyed it open using his newly minted personal access code. He admired Savant for her efficiency, although he could have done without the fluffy attitude. 'It's too eager to please,' he decided, walking into the room. "Lights." Then again, if that's how it was programmed, he couldn't really fault it. It's hard to fight who you are on a fundamental level, more so if you're a computer program. He grunted, realizing that he was mulling over the personality of a computer program. Shrugging it off, he glanced at his terminal. There in his message box was a reminder to transmit his department review. 'I've been on this ship not a full day and they're already demanding a department review,' he grumbled to himself. 'They used to say we'd never become a paperless society. What they should have said is that we'd never become a society that didn't enjoy piling paperwork on others!' Sighing, he decided he might as well do it before he got drunk and passed out. TO: Captain Daren, William Commanding Officer U.S.S. Coronado FROM: Doctor Reed, Alec Chief Medical Officer U.S.S. Coronado RE: Department Status Report DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL -------------------- Resident Physician Dyson, Lauren My initial reaction to Doctor Dyson is that she is a capable physician. While she seems to have a predilection for allowing emotions to color her attitude while working, she does not allow them to interfere with her job. I will require additional time working with Doctor Dyson to form a better opinion of her abilities and work ethic. Further personnel review data unavailable at this time. DEPARTMENT EQUIPMENT OVERVIEW ----------------------------- All equipment intact and operating normally. DEPARTMENT EQUIPMENT REQUESTS ----------------------------- None currently. CASUALTIES/PATIENTS ------------------- Major Prescot, Jacob Major Prescot was admitted under the supervision of Doctor Dyson with a Pfhor hound attached to his lower left arm. The hound inflicted severe injuries, including multiple fractures, tremendous muscular rending, and heavy bleeding. Doctor Dyson mended the bone and stopped the bleeding, at which point I arrived to assess the situation. I directed Doctor Dyson to regenerate the destroyed tissue and prescribed a physical therapy regimen to rebuild the newly generated muscle tissue. Major Prescot should avoid use of his left arm in any capacity that might further endanger it for at least two days while he strengthens the muscles and should return to full health within a week. Full return of the extensor carpi radialis longus, extensor digitorum, and flexor carpi ulnaris muscles, which were the primary muscles damaged, to their original state should occur within a month at most. He was released after full dermal regeneration of damaged tissue was complete. END REPORT ---------- With that out of the way, Reed leaned back and closed his eyes for a moment. He hadn't realized how tired he was before. Maybe he'd skip out on getting drunk tonight. He was already reasonably intoxicated from Commander Smith's Aldebaran whiskey -- perhaps that was enough punishment for the night. That decided, he turned from his desk and flopped down onto his bed, asleep before his head hit the pillow.
