The return trip through the rift created by the Xanadu catapult was just as rocky as the first. Commander Oswald and her engineering staff had been working around the clock to get the ship back together enough to withstand the journey through the rift. The ship had taken quite a beating from the several Pfhor destroyers defending Lh’owon, and matters had been worsened by the Captain’s decision to take the ship atmospheric in the pursuit of a Pfhor transport vessel. Oswald had words for the Captain following that little maneuver to say the least. In the time following the battles in Lh’owon and Xanadu the fleet had let out a tremendous breath of relaxation. It was time to look over the events of the past few hours in detail and pick up the pieces. Daren had been spending hours upon hours in his ready room doing just that, shuffling through the events and figuring out where to go next. Perhaps the most implacable enemy he’s ever personally faced had been disarmed but they were long from gone, and that concerned him, but there were things to do. The return to Xanadu also brought new communications traffic through the fleet network, and bad news. Doctor Jason Vogel, reported as “missing” in an earlier mysterious explosion had been confirmed dead. His DNA had been recovered from wreckage of the vessel he had been providing medical assistance on just prior to the Lh’owon mission. Daren frowned. He had been hopeful that perhaps somehow the Doctor would return to Coronado, his home, but now he would need to inform the crew of another casualty. And there was also a decision to be made regarding the state of the ship’s medical department. Daren stared out at the warping stars outside his ready room window. They were on their way to Reorsa. This journey was a long time coming and there was no telling what they would find once they arrived there.
