"This will not happen to me again...", Daren whispered gently to himself. "What was that Wil?", the voice was close beside him and female, the soothing voice of Mishelle Singer laying next to him on the soft green grass. Daren turned over, "Nothing, just talking to myself again. Great weather here, isn't it?" He sat up and leaned against the tree they had decided to spend the afternoon underneath. "Very nice, almost reminds me of home." She looked upward to the 'sky' above. "Hard to believe there's even more of this beutiful land 'up there'." Daren nodded. The Camelynian Worldship Crystal Palace and it's portable Dyson Sphere design was astounding when seen from space, being inside it however was nothing less then awe inspiring. The artificial sun, or whatever it was that hung high in the sky over all of them seemed to wink at the couple, making them feel as if they were alone...when it was far from true. "More wine?" Daren liften the bottle up. "Of course." She lifted the clear glass to meet the bottle and looked at him. As they sat and enjoyed the afternoons and the evenings at the small but private cottage Daren had procured through some 'connections' in the Camelynian higher order, he found he was distinctly aware of her the entire time. Sometimes it was a scent, particularly when his eyes were closed. Other times it was a shape, the silhoutte she created while standing, looking out the window at the wonderful view this World Ship had encased. He was fortunate that she was able to persuade her Captain, Hexes X of USS Gryphon to meet up here and rally with some familiar Starfleet faces before heading out again. He so missed her touch. But there was another he missed. Sleeping silently in the bed his thoughts went to Ungtae Brie, the only other woman to completely capture his heart so subtly. He remembered the care she had for him, and that special way she looked into his eyes. Especially, he remembered the way it made him feel. Was that what he was starting to have now with this new woman? The answer he told himself was yes. There was a second thought creeping up behind his current one, another memory of Brie. Her death. Loss. Pain. The void of her not being there. The void created that day on the bridge of Coro. The day that had pushed them all to the brink. Mishelle was awake, sitting once again by the window, gazing out. He watched her without letting on that he had woken too, and stayed with his thoughts. What if he gave himself to her completely? And what if he lost her? Could he handle it? Could he come back from that brink twice in one lifetime? She noticed him stirring in the corner bed, "Beautiful, isn't it?" she said without turning her head. "If you could only see what I see...", Daren found himself saying as he looked upon her. He reached to touch her, embrace her, and he knew. He knew this couldn't continue. It would end badly. This would not happen to him again. His mind began racing and he said, "I need to go..." "But Coro doesn't leave for at least another week and Gryphon is only in the area for another two days, we were gonna spend every minute we had together here...", she tore herself from the view and looked up at him, standing over her. Daren seemed to stumble over his words, "There's planning....to be done. I'm responsible...for much...more now." It was a cop out. He knew it, he just hoped she didn't see right through it. But she could always see right through him. That was another part of the attraction. Stop. "Coro goes to pieces if I'm not there, I'm still grooming that new XO of mine..." Of course this was false. Smith was far from a green officer and he had taken to running things on the ship extremely well in Daren's abscence. He could handle the Captain being away and out of touch for a few days. But soon Daren was once again dressed in his Starfleet uniform. "Wil, whats wrong?", she pleaded. "I'm sorry...talk to you soon?", Daren walked quickly out the door, down the small pathway leading to the stream, and tapped his commbadge to call for a beam out... ------------------------------------ Captain William Daren Commanding Officer [IC] USS Coronado NCC 97901 |
